#CorkLovesMusic set to land in UCC
On April 11th and 12th (Wednesday and Thursday), UCC will host a series of talks run as part of the collaborative venture #CorkLovesMusic. #CorkLovesMusic is a co-operative venture between both music industry insiders and artists, a venture that aims to both educate people about the workings of the music industry, and to kick-start discussion around Cork about the resurgence of the local music scene. On April 11th, a series of speakers and panels will take place in the Upstairs Café of the Student Centre, with speakers scheduled to discuss the topic of ‘How Music Works’, including Choice Prize nominee Bantum, Hard Working Class Heroes festival head Angela Dorgan, Cork hip-hop legend and radio DJ Stevie G. and UCC LGBT Society head Kelly Doherty. A discussion panel will also take place, alongside live performances from singer-songwriters Cara Kursh, Ronan Mansfield, and more. The New Bar shall be the venue on April 12th, with the bar hosting the first of a series of showcase gigs as it establishes itself as a crucial link between UCC and the wider music community. Kelly Doherty (A.K.A. Gadget and The Cloud) will be launching her debut album ‘Songs For Sad People To Dance To’ on the night, and will perform alongside fellow Cork electronic acts, lo-fi producer Papa Floral, and ambient improviser Momputer (Eamon Ivri, also of Lighght).#CorkLovesMusic was formed following a TEDx CorkSalon's CorkLovesMusic event in September 2016. It works with festivals such as It Takes A Village and Sounds From A Safe Harbour, as well as with local organisations such as GroundFloor Studio. This event is a collaboration between the UCC Music society and #CorkLovesMusic, and is hoping to be the first of many events to take place on campus, with the possibility being there for similar events to take place on campus next year. Talks and performances take place at 20:00 on both the 11th and 12th of April, and all events are free of charge, with no prior booking required.
