Iconic Cork record shop to reopen

An iconic Cork institution is set to reopen. Plugd, which was originally opened in 2001 by Jim Horgan, is set to open upstairs in The Roundy on the corner of Daunt Square & Castle Street later this month. It had most recently operated a café and record store in the Triskel on Tobin Street, but was forced to vacate the premises at the end of June this year. Since then Plugd has been running pop-up shops and events across Cork, particularly The Roundy. Speaking after the announcement of its reopening, founder Jim Horgan said: “It has been great working with Emma and Frank in the Roundy these last months. We have big plans for the space and we are excited about collaborating with Cork’s creative community to make great things happen.  Upstairs at the Roundy will function as a record and print store, café, gallery, and event space, four days a week; and we’ll be developing new ideas along the way. I’m really looking forward to having Plugd back in action and welcoming back friends and familiar faces.”Plugd will begin selling music upstairs in The Roundy, as well as expanding its event promotion side and moving into independent publications and limited prints. Mr.Horgan will be working with Emma Kelly, promoter for The Roundy, in programming events in the venue, as well as hosting exhibitions curated by Izabela Szczutkowska and Mick O’Shea. “We want this to be a place where everybody feels comfortable coming into,” Emma added, “we've got great gigs lined up for the next couple of months, with an eclectic mix of genres."The new Plugd reopened this weekend with a series of performances featuring acts like Lakerama, Outsider YP, Robedoor, ooSe, HEX and Gadget & The Cloud, and more performances are booked for the next few weeks.
