Indie Cork Film Festival

Every once in a while we can get a little tired of the big budget blockbusters, franchise ruining sequels and (my own personal pet peeve) unfaithful novel-film adaptations which always seem to grace our screens. Sometimes we just need to be reminded what a great art form it is. There is truly no better place to experience the art of filmmaking in its purest form than an independent film festival. This year's “IndieCork” festival, the 3rd in 2 and a half years, runs all this week. Described as “the biggest festival for short films and celebration of emerging filmmakers in Ireland”, IndieCork boasts an action packed programme of film, talks, screenings and musical events.The 2015 programme is bursting with exciting events, from returning favourites such as the ever popular Dance on Film and Creative Cork.  The charming Love and Lemons by Teresa Fabik (Sweden) will be shown as part of the iconic FilmFeast, which combines film and local homemade produce.IndieCork is presenting a truly international range of feature films from countries as diverse as Algeria (The Man From Oran), Jordan (The Salvation Army), Morocco (Theeb) and India (Saankal) amongst many others.The festival committee are renowned for their expertise in their festival of independent film, music and media arts. This year’s programme sees a new collaborative approach; as the festival partners with several creative promoters, artists, filmmakers, musicians and producers. But who are these people who benefit from the committees expertise? Dublin writer and director Eamonn Tutty is an Indie-veteran, who was part of the inaugural festival with his film Anna. He is returning this time as a producer with Testimony, a debut short film written and directed by Kamilla Dydyna. Tutty, who is “delighted to be part of IndieCork once again”, appreciates the significance of the festival on both a national and an international level. IndieCork is a festival which dedicates its programme to Independent film like no other in the country offering support and help for filmmakers to network and push their film into other European film festivals, Mick Hannigan is a tremendous ally to have as a filmmaker… It is a fantastic festival which offers bountiful networking opportunities”IndieCork runs from the 4th - 11th October.
