Irish Tennis Intervarsities Come to UCC

On Wednesday 24th February, college tennis players from all around the country will travel to UCC for the annual tennis intervarsities. Representatives from Queens University Belfast, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin, Sligo IT and University College Cork will take part in the four day event. With Trinity having claimed both the men’s and women’s titles in 2015, our players are eager to bring both cups to the real capital in 2016. The hosting UCC tennis club has entered four men’s and three women’s teams, all of whom have been training over the winter; in wind and rain, and more wind and rain! The four day event will be held at Sunday’s Well Tennis Club, and promises to deliver competitive and exciting tennis of a very high standard. The tournament will involve all players playing both singles and doubles events, and hopes to see teamwork and sportsmanship come to the fore. Current captains Stephen Quirke and Neil Collins have shown excellent organisation skills, with visiting players being treated to the best of Cork’s food and entertainment each evening. The UCC tennis club committee and players are looking forward to getting out on court, and hosting an enjoyable and successful tournament. If you are looking for some quality sporting entertainment this weekend, please come down and support UCC, at Sunday’s Well, beside the Mardyke. The ball gets rolling on Thursday morning, the 25th February!
