IT Sligo win Sigerson appeal

IT Sligo have been reinstated to the Sigerson Cup and will play UCC in the Mardyke on Friday after their appeal was ruled successful last night. The North-Westerners had been eliminated from the competition after playing ITSSU President, Stephen Doak, who was ruled ineligible as a sabbatical officer. However the Central Appeals Committee of the GAA decided that this rule had been simply left out from the current Higher Education GAA constitution, enabling IT Sligo to successfully reverse the punishment.Queen’s University, who were also kicked out of the competition, were also vindicated as their Stranmills College players were deemed eligible for future competitions. They had lined out with three players from the teacher-training college, which is affiliated with the university, and were denied re-entry to the Sigerson after Sligo’s initial sanction.Martin McHugh’s Sligo side will now travel to the Mardyke to face UCC on Friday at 2pm.
