It's all drama, drama, drama...

UCC Dramat has a wealth of upcoming events in store running both on and off campus, writes Micheál Phelan.

UCC Dramat have had a busy and a very successful year’s worth of theatre and is about to open their eighth and final full length production of the year, entitled And Then There Were None by British crime writer Agatha Christie.     And Then There Were None is a story of ten people who are invited to an island off the coast of Devon for a weekend. A record is played soon after their arrival, which accuses each of them in turn of committing murder. Shortly thereafter characters begin to die off, one by one. As the number of casualties gradually increases, accusations fly, paranoia is rife and trust is a distant memory, as they try to figure out who is responsible for this sick joke before they too fall victim to the sinister maniac’s twisted game.  And Then There Were None is a tense murder mystery thriller with suspense in abundance.  It focuses on the theme of guilt and how each of the characters reacts differently to their own feelings of guilt.Director Aaron O’Sullivan has been involved in performing and theatre from a very young age. He has performed in all theatre manners from plays, to musicals and pantomime to operas throughout Cork, Ireland and abroad. Most recently he performed in Pagliacci with the Cork Operatic Society in the Everyman Palace Theatre in Cork which was nominated for the Irish Times award for Best Opera Production of 2012. This is Aaron’s first attempt at directing a full length play having previously directed Éilis, a short play adaptation of Alice in Wonderland as Gaeilge, with An Cumann Drámaíochta. For this he won an award for best costume design at the Dingle Drama Festival.     And Then There Were None is produced by Annie Hoey, stage managed by Ema Lemon and has a cast consisting of Aidan Moriarty, Alan Mooney, Eimear Hurley, Eoghan Griffin, Eoghan Corcoran, Ethan Dillon, Jay Moloney, Lena Mary Houlihan, Emily Brent, Vera Claythorne, Michelle Ryan, Tadgh Dennehy and Yaset ‘’Ace’’ Avecedo.     And Then There Were None runs for four nights only; 13– 16 January 2013 at 8pm in Granary Theatre in the Connolly Building complex. This Dramat production is most definitely a story not to be missed because there really will be none. (Full length Dramat plays, if you don’t get it!).Following on from And Then There Were None, Dramat is having their very own week full of theatre, drama, workshops and social events. Dramat week will begin on Monday 18 February with a groovin’ flashmob, followed by a ‘Mad Hatter Tea Party’ in collaboration with the Hot Beverages Society. On Monday night there will be a ‘Potter Pokes Disney’ table quiz centred around the most worldly topics; Harry potter, Pokemon, and Disney.Tuesday afternoon will see you going on a leisure stroll through campus on an Organic Theatre Walk, followed by Dramat’s Got Talent that evening in the Old Bar. As always there will be last minute registration so why not sign up?Wednesday will consist of yet another outdoor event, a Dramat scavenger hunt held by auditor David Naughton, followed by an ageing, injury and MAC make-up workshop and for all you lonely singletons out there, there will be Character Speed Dating in the evening, so you have every right not to be yourself.Thursday will be ISDA day. The ISDA Festival (Irish Student Drama Association) is where drama societies from universities across Ireland submit their best productions from the year to take part in the festival, and this year UCC has the honour of holding the festival.  The ISDA committee will have a stand on campus all day and will be holding some mini events and recruiting you to volunteer for the festival.  The ISDA Festival runs from March 20 – 27 in five theatres across the city.
