Other Voices Returns to UCC
By News Editor Cormac McCarthy
After last year’s sold-out success, Other Voices returns to UCC for another showcase of the best music that Ireland has to offer. In 2022, audiences were treated to the musical stylings of mercury prize nominee SOAK, recent EP star Cian Ducrot, singer-songwriter Susan O’Neill and indie-darling Biig Piig.
The Aula Maxima line-up for the 28th of September will be presented again by MayKay and will see a diverse line-up of industry mainstays and rising stars. The spectacular array of remarkable musicians includes chart-topping Kildare natives Picture This; local alternative post-punk sextet just back from a series of gigs in London, Cardinals; singer-songwriter and recently nominated for the Choice music prize, Niamh Regan and Jazz and neo-soul inspired hip-hop quintet from Ballymun. Sure to be a highlight of the night, Other Voices will also feature a debut from Sekou, the teenage rising star in the world of R&B.
After the success of last years’ event, the college hopes to keep this event as a permanent mainstay in the calendar year. Tickets are still available, and the event will be livestreamed on the Other Voices for those unable to attend in person.
As part of this event, the UCC Student Hub will also be hosting separate showcase of the talent of the college itself. The event, Other Voices of UCC, will feature the musical talent of Eve Whelan, Kane’s Basement, Drew Hall and the Trad Society of UCC. The College have also opened up applications for unsigned independent artists to play at Other Voices with their UCC Amplified initiative. The application can be found on the UCC website.
