Return Of The 21-Year-Old Teenage Girl

By Features Editor Chloe Barrett

Gossip girl here, your one and only source into the scandalous lives of UCC’s elite. Hah, I wish. Hello all you beautiful academic readers, I hope you have had a stressless transition into this daunting new year of college. Whether it is your first- or fifth-time walking through the grand entrance of UCC - welcome!

I am very grateful to be making a return to this wonderful newspaper since I decided to embark on a different format of student media in 2022. Some of you will know my work from last year’s Motley, or even my position as Gaming Editor two years ago on the Express might ring some bells. Or, you probably know me as the friend who suggested our now dearest Editor in Chief, Claire, to check out the student media presence on campus. Even if I am a stranger to many of you, I am delighted to be writing for you as this year’s Features editor. We are in a new era of the Express, and I have bangs now. We are literally in the most exciting timeline.

Writing has always been an activity that I am passionate about, and my affection for it grows with each word I type. When I decided to embark on doing a master’s degree in creative writing, and to apply for this position, I was subconsciously inserting the daunting idea within my brain that maybe this whole thing could be a profession. Will I still think so when I am struggling with unemployment and Dunnes has a tempting job offer available? Who knows! I am a 21-year-old teenage girl, and that is not something for me to worry about.

There is an incredible assortment of articles included in this issue, and I hope you have a joyous time perusing them. The Express has its best team yet on this issue (I’m legally not biased), and we are all working hard behind the scenes in order to provide you with some juicy content.

Xoxo, Chloe (who sometimes partakes in the odd gossiping session).
