Sidebar: NEW ON THE SCENE: TELETEXT RECORDS

Teletext Records is a new (Cork-based!) Irish management label focusing on left of field acts that provide an amazing live experience. The group, which comprises of Brendan Foley, Donagh Sugrue, JJ Lee and Danny O’Shea, released their artist roster over the last few weeks. Among those announced were local bands Aponym, Deadbog and Gilbert, or The Unfathomable Loneliness Of The Deep Space Prospector. The label is also operating on an open-submission system, they are promising to listen, respond and provide feedback to every enquiry. Their main mission statement as a label is to provide a “less-than-ordinary platform for artists that are aspiring to provide a less-than-ordinary experience to fans.” “We’re hoping that we can try to put a fresh face on what a label can be, while definitely focusing on proof by do rather than say,” says JJ. But what is Teletext Records really going to do for artists? Well, Donagh believes that the Irish music scene is at a “massive turning point” now that the “dust has settled post-limewire” – “I've been playing up and down the country for about 10 years and have heard all of these incredibly creative and ambitious ideas that never got actualised and I just hope that we can team-think and group-work them into a reality rather than purely an ambition.” Teletext Records have scheduled record releases every month from now until early next year, so keep your eyes peeled! There’s also a showcase in the works as well as merchandising and some other “multi-media adventures.” Keep up to date with their activities on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
