Spicy Books That Will Keep You Warm This Winter

By Sarah Kennelly

BookTok has given us many things: Jack Edwards, weirdly specific book recommendations, and the greatest of all, spicy books. Regular porn can often be cheesy and problematic, leaving you with a feeling of dissatisfaction or low self-esteem. If you’re looking for something new to satisfy your needs, erotic novels offer a much better representation of what sex actually looks like. You can replace those fake orgasms and unrealistic body types with the heated romance you have always been looking for. Whether it’s kinky or something sweeter, this genre has a book out there for everyone. Naturally, it is my duty to provide my readers with the perfect beginners guide to spicy books.

First off, we have Count Your Lucky Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur, the ideal novel to ease you into the steamy world of books. It follows a sapphic love story between two best friends who want a second shot at love. The sexual tension between these opposites-attract lovers is palpable, urging you on to read more. If you like Astrology and dirty talk, this is the book for you.  It is the perfect combination of romance, humour, and spice which is happily complimented by Bellefleur’s wonderful writing.

Next, is a similarly entry-level book, Something Fabulous by Alexis Hall. This is a swoon-worthy regency drama that tells the story of a duke who falls in love with his soon-to-be brother-in-law. It is a witty and over-the-top romance that will have you giggling in your seat. Despite its humour, Hall dialled up the heat in the sex scenes whilst still keeping them fun and flirty. If you’re looking for a hilarious book with a side serving of steamy romance, look no further.

Those who are in the market for something a little sexier will love Tessa Bailey’s It Happened One Summer. It is a Schitt’s Creek inspired rom-com where a spoiled socialite falls for the hot-tempered fisherman in her new hometown. Although two polar opposites might not always make the perfect match, they certainly have great sex. The undeniable attraction between the two characters will make you swoon. What’s even better is that the raunchy sex scenes are plentiful, guaranteeing you’ll want to turn each page faster than the last.

The Princess Trap by Talia Hibbert takes this raunchiness just a step further, featuring a plot where a one-night stand turns into a lot more. The protagonist, Cherry Neita, has sworn off men for life, vowing that they are all ignorant and disappointing. Much to her dismay, a Prince Charming comes along and fulfills every desire she has ever had. The author emphasises the importance of mutual respect and care throughout the narrative which is a refreshing change from the mainstream porn industry. The exploration of kink is sexy but also consensual, which makes this romance even hotter.

Last but not least is Party Favours by Erin McLellan. This is the spiciest book on the list but don’t let that scare you off, it is a must-read. It follows an online best friends to lovers plot filled with both tender and heated sex scenes. This erotica delivers on its promise of spice but also has a surprisingly great plot. The story is told through a brilliantly sex-positive lens that sees its characters exploring praise kinks with consent. It is the sexiest holiday-themed read you can find.

There truly are erotic romances out there for every kind of reader. This list shows only a few of the many fantastic books in the spicy genre. What is great about them is that they all present sex in a positive and consensual manner. It’s important to remember people, consent is sexy!
