“They’re hardly still making music are they!?”

The Early 2000’s was an absolutely magical time. Baggy flared jeans, awful hairdos, The Den was still on TV and Arsenal were still a legitimately good soccer team. For some reason or another, though, the music was generally atrocious. I’ve carefully chosen a few of the era’s most memorable one hit wonders and provided a helpful ‘where are they now’ style piece. Let the nostalgia come flooding back... or let’s face it, they’re more like the nightmarish memories. Samantha Mumba – ‘Gotta Tell You’“Here, d’ya remember your wan? Samantha Mumba, she’s still around like, would ya believe that.” I feel this line always crops up every 12-18 months or so, Samantha Mumba shot to fame with her debut track “Gotta Tell You” all the way back in 2000! (Imagine, ha we’re getting auld lads) The teen star had a very brief stint at the top of the Irish charts and rather strangely a number one position in New Zealand also. The Dublin native released a ‘comeback’ single in 2014 with absolutely zero fanfare, the poor crator, and most recently appeared on TV3’s MasterChef Ireland. What a life. Eamon – “Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back)“Fuck what I said it don't mean shit now Fuck the presents might as well throw em out Fuck all those kisses, they didn't mean jack Fuck you, you hoe, I don't want you back…”THAT IS ART. New York resident rapper and all round emotional badass Eamon scored a snazzy Top 20 US Billboard position with his insightful and poetic effort, “Fuck it”, in late 2003. Tasteful follow up single “I Love Them Ho’s” surprisingly didn’t match the success of its predecessor. The lush lyricist has continued to write music and has featured on a slew of collaborative efforts. He has an album coming out at the end of the year, so watch out for that show stealer. Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag2am, you’re after a few light refreshments, minding your own business. “Her name is Noelle…” booms out across the nightclub speakers, you’re surrounded by drunken young ones clamouring to find their mate to yet again butcher this once enjoyable track. Wheatus, I’m sorry but I just can’t like you anymore.  After the runaway success of ‘Dirtbag’, Wheatus continued making music. *audible gasps* although they failed to reach their once lofty position ever again, the American group has continued touring and playing live. They’re currently on the road with Busted, mother of perpetual Christ they’re still around too!? And will record their SEVENTH studio album this year. Wowzers.Fountains Of Wayne – Stacy’s MomLet’s not kid ourselves here, Stacy’s Mom and Teenage Dirtbag are effectively interchangeable. It’s a banger though, and I’ll stand by that statement. The gold-certified hit propelled Fountains of Wayne to mainstream success but inevitably fizzled out. (There’s a trend developing here lads, I don’t know if you noticed like) The band released a live DVD in ’09, and a full LP in 2011, however as of 2016 the boys have no plans to record new music. *cue ‘aww’ sound effect*Afroman – Because I Got HighYeah, he was arrested there after boxing the head off a woman on stage in 2015. Like, he claims it was an accident but yera, I don’t know like. There’s a video out there, go watch it sure. Probably best to leave that one actually.Eiffel 65 – Blue (Da Be Dee)Not going to lie, the music video for this track used to creep me out so much. It’s weird seriously, but what a jive. “I’m Blue” reached number one in our fair nation alongside the UK, France, Sweden, New Zealand, Australia, Germany and it charted at number six in the US. Not bad at all. It was also nominated for a Grammy, wew lad. Eiffel are still plugging away and fans are anxiously awaiting their fourth album release, however the date is currently unknown. Fair play.
