UCC Library now loaning out EnChroma glasses for students with colour-blindness

By News Editor Cormac McCarthy

As part of colour-blindness awareness month, UCC have launched a new initiative to help combat those affected by colour-blindness. Starting this term, students can now try out EnChroma glasses from the creative zone in the UCC library. This initiative hopes to raise awareness for those affected by colour vision deficiency in all forms. The decreased ability to see colours is estimated to affect 1 in 12 males and 1 in 200 females. This increased awareness has been spurred on by the hashtag #1ineveryclassroom, which hopes to make the general public realise just how common the condition is.

It should be noted that these are not at all a “cure” by any means for colour-blindness. However, it has been proven to only have a limited impact, generally assisting those with mild forms of the condition, particular for those who have difficulty distinguishing between red and green.

Students with this decreased ability in seeing colour are invited to participate in this initiative from Wednesday the 6th of September onwards.
