UCC’s first Fashion Week underway | Audrey Ellard Walsh
UCC’s first Fashion Week is presented by UCC Fashion Society and Pulse Model Agency Cork takes place this week from the to the 29th of February.
Monday saw the week officially launched with a night-time launch party and fashion show featuring the 11 contestants from UCC’s Next Top Model in the New Bar.
The week’s events will combine both glamour and practical workshops, open to students for a €5 fee. Tuesday will see a photography workshop with Michael O’ Sullivan of the Royal Photographic Society in ORB 2.55 at 6pm. There will be a Stylist/Blogger workshop held on Thursday morning from 12pm to 1pm again in ORB 2.55 with Brendan Scully of Miss Ireland and three other local bloggers and later that day, there will be a modelling workshop taught by experienced models from Pulse Model Agency Cork held in Boole theatre 1 at 6:30pm.
Fashion Soc Committee members will be hitting campus on Wednesday to scout out fashionable students in a Best Dressed Male and Female Competition. Winners will receive a pair of tickets to Thursday night’s UCC NTM finale.
The highlight of the week is set to be Thursday’s Next Top Model Finale in the Savoy Theatre. The competition, which has been running throughout the year, sees 11 finalists remain and out of them, two winners- one female and one male will receive trophies and a year-long modelling contract with pulse models cork.
Guest Judge Sean M. Montague from Miss Ireland will be examining everything from the models walks and personalities to how well they work with others in making his final selection.
Doors open at 7 with the show beginning at 8. Tickets are priced at €10 which includes nightclub entry for the night and goody bags sponsored by Warehouse and Jack and Jones.
Fashion Society Auditor Christine Kearney states; “We hope to achieve a better understanding for the Fashion Society through this week’s events. We often find on Societies’ Day that some people can be very opinionated towards the Fashion Society’s work with many people assuming we meet up once a week to judge people’s fashion sense and talk about who wore what and where they wore it. This is not the case at all and hopefully the amount of time and organisation we have put into this week will prove that.”
