Europa Society discuss careers in Europe | Audrey Ellard Walsh

 The newly founded Europa Soc hosted a careers talk on Thursday 15th November at 6pm in West Wing 6. Jenny Flynn, Communications and Membership manager with European Movement Ireland presented the lecture on career, internship and study opportunities in Europe.The event was  not to be missed for students thinking of a career in Europe, as Jenny  provided advice and on application processes for those hoping to work in the European Institutions.European Movement Ireland is an independent, not-for-profit, membership-based organisation working to develop the connection between Ireland and Europe. Much of their work relates to helping engage young people with Europe through initiatives such as their Grad Jobs which aims to make Irish graduates and jobseekers more aware of the opportunities available in the EU system and to provide encouragement, guidance and useful advice to help these graduates find and get the position they want. EMI offer student membership for €10 a year. This subscription entitles members to e-bulletins of updates on European affairs in a jargon-free way, and invites members to networking and educational events organised throughout the year by European Movement as well as offering a member’s discount on EM Ireland publications, including The Green Book.For those who may like to stay closer to home, European Movement themselves take on interns throughout the years as part of their stage programme. Stages take place over 4-6 month periods and undergraduates as well as graduates are invited to apply. While unpaid, these internships offer stagiaires the opportunity to take on independent research and project work, event management and transferable office skills as well as first-hand engagement with the Irish legislative system, current issues and influential figures. The  Department of Education and Skills provides a number of scholarships to Irish students who wish to study at the college and for the past two years, EM Ireland have administered the application process on behalf of the Department. These scholarships are open to Irish students studying politics, law, economics, European studies.
